4 real and effective ways to fight against anxiety

Work place anxiety is a common problem. There are just times that we feel really worried, about not delivering what we are supposed to deliver, about failing the expectations of others, or about breaking the relationships that are hardly built. The struggle is on a daily basis.

What we can do about it? Of course, if you are good at controlling or channeling your worries, you wouldn’t be worrying about your work at home. But what if you can’t sleep at night? Are there ways that can help to keep the anxiety level under control so that you can still go to work in good spirits? Good news is yes. Here are a few practices that we think may be useful.

1. Make a rule to switch to non-work mode after leaving the office. This may sound natural to you, but not to everyone. There are those of us who can still think a lot about what happened at office, at dinner, during shower, or before sleep. It’s just not helpful to keep thinking about it. We need to give us a break. So make a rule to not think about work after leaving the office. Immediately plunge yourself into doing and thinking about something else. You can turn on Netflix, or listen to music, read a book, play with your kids. Anyway, try hard to distract yourselves intentionally.

2. Keep your personal life separate from your work life. This is also related to the first practice, but at a more general lève. It’s an attitude to have a clear separation, a clear boundary. A lot of times, we don’t really think about drawing a clear line between work and life, and that is exactly why we have a very poor work-life balance. If we don’t know ourselves where our life could start, there is no way we could stay out of work. It’s not about how difficult it is to draw such a line, but about how determined we are to separate the two.  Once this is done, you will find that it will be only natural to just start enjoying life a bit after leaving the office, instead of still worrying about the work.

3. Having some hobbies may help as well. For some workaholics, it may be better to develop several other hobbies. Once you have many things that you love to do, you would automatically divide your time and attention, and it’s a useful way to keep some distance from work. Anxiety may arise at work, but you could always have a pleasant time while practicing a hobby that you are passionate about. Be it playing games, cooking, DJing, shopping or anything else that can take your mind away from work.

4. Bear in mind that our life is broader than just work. Surprisingly, we often tend to forget this and lose the big picture while we are in the middle of anxiety. It’s necessary to remind ourselves from time to time that our life is bigger than work, and there are many other things that we need to think about.
